An initial deployment of IMPAX progresses to Norway’s first EI Go-Live of Agfa HealthCare Enterprise Imaging Solution.

In January 2021, Martina Hansens Hospital (MHH) in Norway saw the deployment of Agfa HealthCare’s Enterprise Imaging solution.

Martina Hansens Hospital in Norway specialises in orthopaedics, rheumatology and rheumatology surgery, and is positioned as one of the leading healthcare sites of these specialities in the country. The private hospital, located in the Oslo-region of Bærum, is owned by the Martina Hansens Hospital Foundation and provides surgical services for around 4,500 patients annually, as well as performing 35,000 outpatient examinations a year.

Agfa HealthCare and Martina Hansens Hospital have been working together since 2005. In 2012, MHH upgraded its picture archiving and communication system (PACS) to Agfa HealthCare’s IMPAX PACS, and the Hospital’s planned switch to Microsoft Windows 10 triggered the need to investigate new solutions. The hospital saw additional clinical and organisation requirements unfold, prompting investigation into a comprehensive solution to both manage imaging and provide diagnostic tools – in order to support the unique needs of each clinical specialty. After an evaluative process, the Martina Hansens Hospital adopted Agfa HealthCare’s Enterprise Imaging (EI) PACS solution – equipped with EI, XERO viewer, Business Intelligence (BI), Qaelum DOSE monitoring and Hectec mediCAD orthopaedic software.

The platform’s multi-disciplinary team (MDT) offered daily insights to the orthopaedic surgeons, who could use this functionality to review their patients, each morning, prior to surgery.  In turn, this enabled clinicians to preview each patient’s imaging history and prior exams (including those imported from other hospitals) in advance of the appointment.

The Martina Hansens Hospital also uses mediCAD for orthopaedic templating – it is opened from the EI platform and images are stored directly within. For subsequent clinical reporting, studies are also distributed and reviewed in the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) DIPS, with the Agfa HealthCare XERO viewer being launched from DIPS to access the patients’ imaging records.

On 23rd January 2021, Martina Hansens Hospital went live with Agfa HealthCare Enterprise Imaging. Agfa HealthCare’s Project Management team deployed the EI solution remotely from a team located in four different countries, resulting in the very first Agfa HealthCare EI implementation in Norway.
