Amsterdam UMC has chosen to merge the image management infrastructure of the AMC and VUmc hospitals into a single entity, with Agfa HealthCare’s Enterprise Imaging platform. Agfa HealthCare will provide all hardware and software, and will be responsible for the complete management of the enterprise-wide solution.

In this ambitious project, all of the hospitals’ 14,000 staff who work with images will use the platform, making Amsterdam UMC the largest Enterprise Imaging installation in the Netherlands. Benefits including access to all medical images in the hospital,  a lighter workload for IT employees, and more, will contribute to the delivery of quality patient care

Enterprise-wide solution for all images

The Enterprise Imaging project will connect more than 30 different departments – each with its own imaging equipment –  to the central image archive. All images from radiology, cardiology and a wide range of other specialties, will be accessible throughout the hospital, integrated into the medical record, via Enterprise Imaging and the universal web-based XERO Viewer.

Agfa HealthCare is also collaborating with Atos for the on-premise infrastructure, which will remain at Amsterdam UMC. With the Agfa HealthCare’s solutions, authorized users have easy access to all the images they need to help them save time and serve patients even better. AMC and VUmc have been working with Enterprise Imaging for years. Merging the installations of VUmc and AMC, will further enhance these advantages and significantly reduce the total cost of ownership.

“We are very proud that Amsterdam UMC has chosen Agfa HealthCare solutions, and entrusted us with the management of all software and hardware. Together with Atos, we can deliver a  solution that will ‘unburden’ the hospital, so to speak.

Building on the excellent relationship we have developed with the employees of both hospitals for years, we will continue to work to contribute to quality care,” concludes John Emmerik, Managing Director at Agfa HealthCare Netherlands.

About Amsterdam UMC

The Academic Medical Center (AMC) and VU medical center (VUmc) merged in 2018 to form Amsterdam UMC. The hospitals collaborate on academic patient care, scientific research and education & training. They employ more than 15,000 professionals treating more than 350,000 patients at the two locations. Amsterdam UMC also trains thousands of young people to become doctors, specialists or nurses.
