The implementation of onboarding new PACS technology requires a team effort. To be successful, coordination of priorities between vendor and customer must realistically bridge the gap between “technical capabilities” and “realizable potential”. Roles such as Physician Champion and Vendor Project Manager are key to a sustainable adoption. Discussion will include assessment of user needs, expectations, and technical abilities, as well as field-tested methodologies to drive productivity and ease-of-use through pro-active preparation and coaching.

With its high volume of medical imaging, productivity is constantly a focus for Southern Ohio Medical Center. Efficient use of Agfa Enterprise Imaging workflow engine combined with integrated radiology reporting not only resulted in report turnaround time decrease down to 20-30 minutes but also, and perhaps more important, allowed us to significantly increase the amount of studies read. The rules-based workflow engine allows for process optimization, where units of work are clearly defined, configuration of workflow steps allows maximum flexibility, and such customizations can be created without deploying new software, using an intuitive configurator tool. We will discuss productivity improvements and how these were achieved.

Yorkshire Imaging Collaborative (YIC) is a transformation programme across the six West Yorkshire Association of Acute Trusts (WYAAT) and three regional partner Trusts (Hull University Hospitals NHS Trust, North Lincolnshire & Goole NHS Foundation Trust and York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust), enabled by technology. The Programme is split into two parts; Technology and Transformation.
Nicholas Spencer will share their experience with phase 1 of the programme (Technology) which comprises 40 projects to migrate from existing radiology picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) to one, joined-up system, reducing variation and standardising pathways.
Phase 2 of the programme (Transformation) will enable connectivity of all the YIC trusts, to allow for image and workflow sharing.
